Camp Delafield helps keep reading skills sharp during the summer break.
Camp Delafield is a five-week, summer day camp for children 7-12 years old that provides tutoring, sports and recreation, and visual and performing arts.
During the mornings, children receive one-on-one tutoring, as well as small-group instruction, while the afternoons are devoted to sports and recreation. The morning’s tutoring focuses on building students’ comprehensive oral and written expression skills.
The recreation program helps campers strengthen organizational, gross and fine motor skills; oral expression ability; directionality; and self-esteem. Recreation time includes non-competitive sports, instructional games, visual and performing arts, and a basketball camp provided by the Indiana Pacers. Near the end of camp, the children spend one night to learn about independence.
DII offers Teen Camp for children 13 to 15 years old. In addition to tutoring and sports, Teen Campers participate in small groups on organizational and study skills, math, and English; they also act as junior counselors during the recreational portion of camp.
DII’s approach is to teach the “whole child”; academics, self-esteem, social skills, and motivation. Campers return to school with a more positive outlook and renewed dedication to their studies.
Financial assistance is available.
